Yoga

Benefits of Yoga

  • Strengthened and toned muscles
  • A more flexible and youthful spine
  • Reduced tension in the neck, shoulders and lower back

  • Correct breathing
  • Deeper breathing revitalizes the body and calms the mind
  • When the breath is steady the mind is steady

  • Improved relaxation and higher energy levels
  • Each stretch practised releases stress stored in the body as blockages
  • As these are removed the prana (energy) is allowed to flow freely, increasing vitality

Beginners are most welcome

After a Yoga Class you wil feel relaxed, yet energised:

  • Yoga exercises all parts of the body, its central focus being the spine
  • You are only as young as your spine! so maintaining its flexibility and strength is paramount
  • Yoga facilitates this through measured exercise
  • The internal organs are massaged, assisting in detoxifying the body, aiding digestive regularity
  • Proper exercise in harmony with proper breathing technique releases tension and promotes a profound feeling of wellbeing and relaxation
  • As part of your life, yoga will not only develop the body but broaden the mind and your spiritual capacity

Yoga FAQ's

I have never done yoga before. Does this matter?

Not at all. You will be guided every step of the way in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Inflexible beginners welcome!

What type of yoga do you teach?
There are now several schools of yoga being practised. I teach Sivananda Hatha Yoga which is the oldest and most traditional form. It focuses on postures (asanas), proper breathing and relaxation.

How long is each class?
Each regular yoga class lasts 90 minutes.

What happens if I miss a class?

If you are unable to attend your particular class in any given week, you can come to another of my scheduled classes at either venue in the same week. This is by arrangement and assuming that there is space (which there usually is!).

Please note that missed classes cannot be carried over to a subsequent week.

Why do you say 'regular' yoga?
I also teach pregnancy yoga where the class time is shorter. If you are looking for information about these classes

What should I wear?

Any comfortable and unrestrictive clothing, such as you might wear for normal fitness activities, would be suitable. Bare feet are necessary for the class.

Do I need to bring anything, such as a yoga mat?
Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and a light blanket for the final relaxation. However we always have a few extra yoga mats available at no extra cost if you are unable to bring your own.
