What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a combination of an altered state of awareness (hypnosis) with caring, cognitive guidance (therapy) to enable you to make those truly desired changes in your life.

What will it be like? Is it Safe?

  • You cannot ever be made to do things you don't want to.
  • You do not go to sleep; you are totally aware of yourself and your surroundings at all times.
  • There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling so you won't actually feel hypnotised at all. Some experience a feeling of calmness and relaxation.
  • You cannot 'get stuck'. This is quite impossible.
  • You will not suddenly blurt out all those dark secrets!

An Introduction to Hypnotherapy

The power of the mind has been recognized for millennia. The mind body link is well established and the consequences of thinking good health or ill health is every bit as powerful.

Our Western world culture today has, for the most part, lost sight of the ancient wisdom of the power of the mind and for an individual to regain and exercise 'mind power'. The trance state of hypnosis and guided therapy whilst in this state (Hypnotherapy) can be an invaluable aid.

Psychogenic illnesses, where physical symptoms such as ulcers, irratable bowel, and skin eczema are present, are likely to respond well. Also headaches, stomach aches, constant tiredness and even paralysis, where the medical diagnosis has concluded 'no physical cause' (Psychosomatic), will have an expectation of successful healing.

Phobias also originate in the mind and their effects can be debilitating. The fear of spiders, heights, enclosed spaces and other phobias can be addressed through hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Unwanted habits can often seem to be beyond our own control. The habits of smoking, nail biting, and over-eating for example, are habits that need a 'mind change' to overcome them.

Mental Attitude

The quality of life and success that many people experience is aof their confidence and positive belief in 'self'. Many, however, habitually bombard themselves with negative 'self-talk' with such statements as, "I'll never be able to change", "I'm not clever enough", "My luck can't last"; all of which generally prove to be self-fulfilling prophecies.

Here again hypnotherapy works, providing positive statements to the client's subconscious, modifying the damaging self-talk.

Applications would include relationships, self-esteem, some sexual problems, sports performance, exam nerves, stage fright and similar negative mental attitudes.

A person's problems may be caused by a traumatic experience in their childhood, experiences that cannot be consciously remembered but remain buried in the mind. Hypnotherapy can help to uncover these memories, reframe them, allowing the person to accept the event in a way that enables them to let go of the past and move on.

Pathological Illness & Disease

Hypnotherapy has proved beneficial in the treatment of the symptoms of pathological illnesses. With the subconscious controlling our autonomic nervous system and homeostasis, it is possible to influence it and thus reduce symptoms, minimize pain and even encourage the healing process.
